Itenas’ Journey on Its 51st Year: Proud Achievements from the Academic Communities
Institut Teknologi Nasional Bandung celebrated its 51st Anniversary or Dies Natalis on Thursday (14/12/2023). The peak of the celebration took place at GSG Bale Dayang Sumbi Itenas. This year, Itenas Bandung adopted the theme “Embracing Challenges, Fostering Innovations,” signifying Itenas Bandung’s readiness to compete on the global stage.
“The theme carries the meaning that Itenas will continue to commit to facing all future challenges to generate various new innovative breakthroughs, supporting the nation’s competitiveness, and contributing to solving national and global issues,” said Itenas Rector Prof. Meilinda Nurbanasari, Ph.D.
The Rector added that this spirit is based on Itenas Bandung’s goal to become a world-class university. Key areas of focus include improving the quality and productivity of research and publications, fostering innovation, and internationalization programs alongside academic processes.
Best wishes for Itenas Bandung were also expressed by Prof. Dr. Iwan Inrawan Wiratmadja, Chairman of Yayasan Pendidikan Dayang Sumbi. He hopes that Itenas Bandung will adapt to rapid and massive global changes leading up to 2045.
“These global changes or megatrends are transformative changes on a large scale, long-term, and massive, especially due to advances in digital technology and computing, including artificial intelligence or AI. The 10 megatrends will be faced by 2045, and I emphasize three aspects, namely technological development, increased competition for natural resources, and climate change,” said the Chairman of the YPDS.
The procession included a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Setiyo Budiyanto, S.T., M.T., a Professor in Electrical Engineering at Mercu Buana University (who is also an alumnus of Itenas Electrical Engineering). In addition to the keynote speech, there was also the awarding of service recognition to dedicated lecturers and staff with ten years of service and beyond, as well as the Itenas Awards 2023, which recognizes academic members who have brought honor to the institute and the best partners of Itenas throughout 2023.
Speaking of achievements throughout the year, the academic community and even alumni of Itenas Bandung have won national and international titles. The highest achievement was secured by Aulia Akbar (alumnus of the Visual Communication Design major), who won the Nusantara IKN logo design competition at the end of May. Itenas Bandung also produced outstanding work this year in the form of the first hybrid electric three-wheeled vehicle in Indonesia, created by a team of lecturers and students from the Mechanical Engineering major.
Itenas Bandung also achieved academic excellence, such as winning 3rd place in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology’s Digital Learning Development and Implementation Grant (Hibah Pengembangan dan Penyelenggaraan Pembelajaran Digital/P3D) by Sofia Umaroh, S.Pd., M.T. (lecturer in the Information Systems major), numerous faculty members receiving prestigious research grants, and the appointment of two permanent professors. In late November, Itenas Bandung officially appointed professors to Prof. Dr. Waluyo, S.T., M.T. (in the field of Electrical Energy) and Prof. Dr. Ir. Etih Hartati, M.T. (in the field of Liquid Waste Processing).
With these achievements and other efforts, Itenas Bandung is expected to be further motivated to enhance its quality as a higher education institution and realize the motto “Embracing Challenges, Fostering Innovations” that is being promoted.
