Itenas Officially Inaugurated Two New Full Professors
Thursday (30/11/2023) marked a historic day for Institut Teknologi Nasional Bandung as it officially conferred the title of two permanent professors. The inauguration ceremony took place at the GSG Bale Dayang Sumbi Itenas.
The event was attended by important guests, including the board of leaders of Itenas Bandung, the management of Yayasan Pendidikan Dayang Sumbi, representatives from the Higher Education Services Institute (Lembaga Layanan Pendidikan Tinggi/LLDIKTI) Region IV, representatives from the Indonesian Professor Association (Persatuan Guru Besar Indonesia/Pergubi), rectors of partner universities of Itenas Bandung, and others. The inauguration proceeded smoothly, and the entire procession was solemnly followed by all guests.
The two newly appointed permanent professors are Prof. Dr. Waluyo, S.T., M.T. (Professor in Electrical Energy) who is a lecturer in the Electrical Engineering program, and Prof. Dr. Ir. Etih Hartati, M.T. (Professor in Liquid Waste Processing) who is a lecturer in the Environmental Engineering program. Up to this point, there are now three active professors at Itenas Bandung.
Prof. Meilinda Nurbanasari, Ph.D., the Rector of Itenas Bandung, expressed that the addition of two permanent professors is a grand moment worth celebrating, coinciding with the 51st Anniversary of Itenas on December 14. She also expressed hope that the titles achieved by Prof. Waluyo and Prof. Etih would serve as inspiration for future generations.
“At its core, a professor is a teacher, educator, and researcher whose research results are eagerly awaited by the wider community as part of a form of dedication. Becoming a professor is not the end of a lecturer’s career achievement, but the contribution as a professor to the nation and the country, and especially to Itenas, will be even greater,” said the Rector of Itenas
Congratulations were also conveyed by the Chairman of Yayasan Pendidikan Dayang Sumbi, Prof. Dr. Iwan Inrawan Wiratmadja. He expressed the highest appreciation for the efforts, hard work, and dedication of the two newly appointed permanent professors in achieving the highest academic positions. He also encouraged other lecturers at Itenas Bandung to strive for similar achievements.
“The number of professors in Indonesia is still less than 3 percent of the total number of lecturers. Considering the importance of the role of professors in national development, we should collectively make efforts to increase the number of professors in Indonesia,” he said.
Representing LLDIKTI Region IV, Mrs. Gina Indriani, S.Si., M.T. (Coordinator for Educators and Education Personnel), also expressed her hope for Itenas Bandung to produce more permanent professors in the near future.
“Of course, we from LLDIKTI Region IV also hope that Itenas can have more professors shortly. As we know, Itenas is a well-known university in Bandung and even in Indonesia,” she said.
Before being officially appointed by Itenas Bandung, each permanent professor delivered an inaugural lecture in their respective fields. Prof. Waluyo presented an inaugural lecture titled “The Role of High Voltage Systems, Automation, and Smart Grid in Minimizing Losses and Improving Electrical Energy Savings.” Meanwhile, Prof. Etih’s inaugural lecture was titled “From Liquid Waste Processing Towards Resource Recovery as an Effort to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals.” The inauguration was then conducted with the reading of the official text by the Rector of Itenas, followed by the bestowal of the professorial necklace and the reading of the integrity oath.
With the addition of permanent professors, Itenas Bandung continues to make significant strides toward achieving its main vision, which is to become a leading university in the fields of technology, science, and arts, actively contributing to sustainable development nationally and globally, based on high values of integrity, quality, and innovation.
