To Create a Democratic and Justified Educational Environment, Itenas Held a Public Test for Candidates of the PPKS Task Force Selection Committee
Following the instructions from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology to address sexual violence and discrimination in the educational environment, Institut Teknologi Nasional Bandung conducted a public test for prospective candidates of the Selection Committee for the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (Satgas PPKS). The event took place on Wednesday (18/10/2023) at Gedung Fakultas Itenas.
The event began with a speech by Mr. Abinhot Sihotang, S.T., M.T. (Vice Rector for Finance and General Affairs). He mentioned that sexual violence in the educational environment is not only physical but has also extended to verbal and cyber violence. According to him, power imbalances have the potential to lead to violence. Therefore, Itenas needs to establish the PPKS Task Force as a platform to address all forms of violence.
“In this public test, we all want to hear the opinions of the prospective committee candidates regarding the handling and prevention of sexual violence at Itenas. Others can also ask questions or provide input for discussion,” he said.
The eight candidates for the Selection Committee for the PPKS Task Force who participated in the public examination included Mr. Bernardinus Herbudiman, S.T., M.T. (lecturer in Civil Engineering), Mr. Alfan Ekajati Latief, S.T., M.T. (lecturer in Mechanical Engineering), Dr. Agustina Kusuma Dewi, S.Sos., M.Ds. (lecturer in Visual Communication Design), Mrs. Tika Sandi, A.Md. (Head of Administration, FAD), Mrs. Eni Naya Iskandar, S.E. (Head of Administration, FTI), Lutfia Silvi (student in Industrial Engineering), Maya Amalia (student in Industrial Engineering), and Ghaida Afra (student in Visual Communication Design).
During the event, the eight candidates presented concepts and ideas about preventing sexual violence based on their understanding and experiences for 5 minutes each. Then, their ideas received feedback from the observers present, consisting of internal observers (lecturers, staff, and Itenas students) and external observers, including Mrs. Ema Kusumah Cahyaningsih, S.H., M.M. from Dinas Pemberdayaan Perempuan, Perlindungan Anak, dan Keluarga Berencana (DP3AKB) of West Java Province, and Mrs. Darwinih from Koalisi Perempuan Indonesia Wilayah Jawa Barat.
The feedback provided by the observers became an interesting discussion material during the public examination. Topics included the protection of both perpetrators and victims, the fulfillment of rights and protection for people with disabilities, and advocacy for victims of violence. As a closing statement, Mrs. Ema provided a brief explanation of the procedures for handling sexual violence in the city of Bandung and West Java province.
Moving forward, once the selection committee members are determined, Itenas Bandung can promptly establish and strengthen the PPKS Task Force for further implementation. It is hoped that this movement will realize Itenas Bandung as a campus free from violence and discrimination.
